When Armadillos Become A nuisance:
- Burrowing through your lawn and garden.
- Foul Smells
- Digging up plants, flowers, and vegetables.
- Weakening structures by digging dens underneath the foundations.
- Visible Burrows Or Dens
At Nolan Wildlife Control, we specialize in the permanent removal of Armadillos and other pests from your property.
When an armadillo burrows beneath your home, the erosion can cause your foundation to crack. Although we do not frequently experience freezes in Texas, when they do occur, water inside an armadillo burrow can expand, causing significant foundation issues and costly repairs for homeowners. After we relocate armadillos, Nolan Wildlife seals the burrow properly with concrete to prevent damage to your home's foundation and structure.
If you are seeing armadillos in your yard, please call Nolan Wildlife and let us assist you. Trying to trap armadillos yourself is extremely challenging, and armadillos are carriers of leprosy. Touching the underside of an armadillo can be dangerous.
Fascinating Armadillo Facts

Armadillos are unique creatures known for their distinctive armor-like shell. These fascinating mammals are primarily found in the Americas, particularly in the southern United States, Central America, and parts of South America. They are nocturnal and have a diet that mainly consists of insects, grubs, and other small invertebrates. Armadillos are also known for their ability to dig burrows, which they use for shelter and protection from predators. Interestingly, they can hold their breath for several minutes while swimming, making them quite adaptable to various environments. Of the 20 different types of armadillos roaming North and South America, only one calls the U.S. home: the nine-banded armadillo. The name is a little misleading, as nine-banded armadillos can have anywhere from seven to 11 bands on its hard shell.
Armadillos have terrible eyesight but an excellent sense of smell, as well as strong legs and sharp claws. These peaceful mammals, typically no bigger than the size of a small dog, use their powerful noses to forage for food at night. Like raccoons and skunks, armadillos are helpful wildlife creatures, depending on where they make their home.
Armadillo Behavior
Armadillos are solitary animals and prefer to live alone, except during mating season or when a mother is raising her young. They are known for their digging abilities, creating extensive burrow systems that can be several feet deep. Their unique ability to roll into a ball is a defense mechanism against predators, although not all species can do this. Understanding their behavior is crucial for effective wildlife control and prevention strategies.
